Cap de Creus Natural Park was the first maritime-terrestrial park in Catalonia. It was established in 1998 and protects much of the Cap de Creus peninsula. It has an area of 13,886 ha, of which 10,813 correspond to the terrestrial part and 3,073 to the marina. It is located in the Alt Empordà region, in the villages of Cadaqués, Llançà, Palau Saverdera, Pau, Port de la Selva, Roses, Selva de Mar and Vilajuïga.

The "Aiguamolls de l'Empordà" or Empordà Marshes represent one of the most important examples of marshland in the Mediterranean. Mainly located within the municipal area of Castelló d'Empúries, they form an outstanding area of coexistence between water, land, humans and nature. Their principal attraction in terms of wildlife is the nearly 350 species of birds, many of which are protected, and of which the majority nest there on regular basis. As for the flora, of great value in terms of biological interest but also in terms of landscape, this combines rice-fields and zones of pasture.
